On the north-east of Sithonia you will find the village Pirgadikia. It is built amphitheatrically above the sea level and at the inmost part of the gulf of the Holy Mountain. It is surrounded by olive trees and low vegetation.
From every part of the village you can see Mount Athos and the peninsula of Sithonia.
Pirgadikia has about 600 inhabitants. During the Byzantine time, this village was the property of the monastery of Dochiarion on Mount Athos and the village was founded after the disaster in Asia Minor by refugees from Afthoni.
The distance to Thessaloniki is 125 km. Beside of the ancient remains that you can find, the beaches are at some kilometers of distance from the village. In the village
