Porto Koufo

Porto Koufo, a tiny fishing settlement of Sikia, is located on the south-west point of the Sithonia peninsula as you can see on the Halkidiki map.

Coming from Neos Marmaras and going to Sikia / Sarti, you will find Porto Koufo on the right side on your way.

History of Porto Koufo
"Kofos Limin" (Deaf harbor) was mentioned by Thucydides, the ancient Greek historian. Ancient inhabitants gave it this name, because sea sounds could not be heard inside the bay.

Porto Koufo has the largest natural harbor in Greece and a rich history. The harbor was used as a base by Turkish pirates and also during World War II by Germans for U-boats (because of its geographical location and direct access to the Aegean Sea). German army fortified the area and many of those fortifications are still visible.

About Porto Koufo
Porto Koufo has approximately 100 inhabitants, distance to Thessaloniki is 145 km and to Thessaloniki Airport 135 km. Porto Koufo consists only of some houses, buildings and some tourist facilities.

Nature in the surroundings of Porto Koufo seems untainted and looks very wild and rocky. It is one of the most beautiful areas in Chalkidiki.

Aside from the tiny village and small beach of Porto Koufo you will find a very large but calm sandy beach at Tristinika, some minutes from Porto Koufo. If you are planning to visit this beach, follow the main road from Porto Koufo in the direction of Neos Marmaras. Soon you will see a sign on your left. Follow this sign and via some
narrow curved paths you will arrive at this beautiful beach. In September, Porto Koufo hosts the festival; "Fishing of the Tuna".
